Meet Tom
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be posting short blog pieces, such as this, that give an insight into members of the Number 11 team, sharing a little about who they are and why they are so passionate about Number 11. Be sure to check back weekly to see which member of the team will be up next!
What ice cream flavour sums you up and why?
White chocolate. It goes under the radar and never disappoints …and is hands-down one of the best flavours going!
What do you do outside of Number 11?
I’m currently training to be a Geography Teacher. Alongside that, I love playing and listening to music, playing NBA 2K or eating shed loads of chocolate.
What’s your role within Number 11?
Myself and James had a conversation some years ago about setting up a centre that would provide long-term, holistic support to those in need in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. After lots of grafting and hard-work, Number 11 was born! It’s been a real privilege to be a part of and watch the idea grow into a reality. Nowadays, I focus more on the marketing side doing some design, media and a touch of admin.
Why are you involved with Number 11?
For me, I believe too many people, especially Christians, believe that helping people in need is optional or for those with a specific calling. As a Christian, I believe we are all called to help and love others – and the best way we can do that is through genuine, holistic and sustainable support. There are many charities and initiatives that tackle temporary needs (such finding food or a bed for the night), but I’m convinced that the way we can serve our community in the best way possible is through eradicating the source of people’s problems, moving them from dependence and despair to a place of sustainability and hope.
What is your hope for the future of Number 11?
Dreaming big… I would love for Number 11 to grow beyond Burslem, and to support communities in need across the country. The ideal for us at Number 11 is that we cease to exist, because the need for our work is no longer needed.
